Updated Sitch (8.26.13):

Thank you, dear readers, for joining me, as well as sticking with me, while I found my voice in the comic world.  I’m enjoying myself immensely.  How can a girl with my appetite for stories complain?

I only wish I had more time to read more than I already do.  Being a busy super mom I have a lot to do; what with a husband to care for, two girls to raise, a house to run, a PTO to assist, books to sling, a blog to run… I’m swamped.  I have found that just relaxing and enjoying the books and writing what I thought of them to actually be fun.  I was tense at first, trying to read all the issue #1’s and reviewing them in a timely manner, but I found that comic reviews are a dime a dozen.  There are many bloggers out there doing this review business for longer and do it better than I ever will.  I’m okay with that.  I’m just here to give you insight into what I’m reading and hopefully help you to decide what you want to read, should you be looking for something new or are seeking to find what someone else sees in what you have already discovered.  I also hope to be spoiler free because I hate that most reviews tell you everything that has happened in the book they are reviewing.  My “reviews” are kept short and sweet.

Another thing I have found is that it’s feast or famine every week.  Some weeks I am swamped with new books and cannot read and review all the new issues and keep up with what I’m already reading.  Other weeks there is nothing worth reviewing because as much as there is a lot of good material coming out there is also a lot of crap.  During these times I hope to add posts about the books I’m also reading that aren’t so timely, like a lot of the trade paperbacks that are so frakking awesome to have access to so easily.  It makes catching up so much easier and rewarding.

Also, at times of not getting any feels from new releases, I do my best to tweet about all things cool and nerdy.  Stay tuned!

So there you have it.  I hope you enjoy my humble ravings and rantings about what I’m reading.  Please feel free to share whatever discoveries and treasures you hold near and dear as well.  Nothing makes me happier than sharing the wealth of stories.

Here’s the sitch:

I work at Metropolis Comix because I love stories and I love comics.  I’m not a hardcore super hero comic nerd, not because I don’t want to be, I’ve just been addicted to the indie type stories since forever.  It’s just who I am.  Now that I’m around the books so much I want to take advantage of the opportunity and get to know my childhood love much better. These “comic reviews” are  solely my opinion and do not reflect those I work with or for in any way.  That’s another reason I like working around the books,  I get to meet and talk with others who also love books and make me excited to try something new through their unique opinions and general nerdage.

Some of my favorite artists are Charles Vess, Jo Chen, Tara McPherson, and Megan Lara.  As far as writers that’s hard with so many good stories so I’ll just leave it with my all time favorite who solidified my love for comics, Neil Gaiman.  The Sandman comics made me fall in love all over again and I never recovered.

Bear with me as I find my voice and please feel free to comment me back on a specific confession or email me at sebya@metropoliscomix.com with any suggestions or recommendations.

  1. Just wanted to say I found your site by accident (was looking for interior comic art for Spread) and I ended up reading a bunch of your reviews…and they’re great. Not too long, to the point, good reasoning for your opinion…not to mention you’ve clearly got good taste (lots of Image stuff!). Very well done! Keep up the good work!

    • Thank you so much for your kind words! I admit, I sometimes feel too biased reviewing mostly Image comics but they just know how to put out quality stories and amazing art. I appreciate the encouragement, thanks again for taking the time.
